We recently had a revival, or as we called it, a “celebration”, at our church. We celebrated ten years of the opening of our church. In those ten years, I have searched hard to find where we fit in the Body of Christ and what God has for us. Sometimes we do a lot of searching while oblivious to what is right in front of us in His Word. We are told in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-18 to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. The Church preaches the Gospel; however, without the power. If we look at Acts 1:8, Jesus tells us that we will receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon us. What is that power for? We are to take up serpents (not literally handling snakes, rather referring to authority over devils), perform miracles, speak with new tongues, and cast out demons.  This, I’ve found, to be the power that we are missing in the Church.

In Luke 10:18, Jesus said that He saw Satan fall like lightning from Heaven. Did this mean that Satan fell to the Earth, and so, had power over us? No. This scripture in Luke shows us that power was actually taken from him.  Look at what Jesus said next in verse 19, “Behold, I give you power”. We, the Church, have authority in this world and in the spiritual; over our lives and over our bodies as well. However, we let the powerless one take control. It is time that we wake up and exercise the authority and power that was given to us by the Lord Jesus Christ and quit letting powerless devils run our lives. We are created in God’s image and likeness. This is how the world and devils should see us. God’s image is not one that is powerless or weak.  However, the image that we portray is a whipped puppy with our tails tucked between our legs. Thus, we see the havoc in our world today. Let it not be so. God forbid, as Paul would say.  Let us reclaim and preach the Gospel with power.
