Pastor's Pen
Wednesday, February 18 2015

I was reading this verse while preparing my message for Sunday service, and the Lord spoke to me and said “if you’re not being transformed, you are being conformed”.

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Many times over the years, I have seen people in church say that they were Christians and that they loved the Lord and would serve Him and Him alone. However, when they were not at church and were just out in the world, they became just like the world - accepting the ways of the world; going along with the crowd, laughing at dirty jokes, using fowl language etc…

How can we say we will serve God when we won’t renew our minds to His Word? His word is our instruction manual, if you will, to show us how to govern our lives before the Lord. We all want the blessing of the Word but we don’t want to live the Word.  God told us we were to be a shining light in a world of darkness to guide others to Him.  But, we are so caught up in the darkness of the world, that we are trying to live just up to the edge without crossing it. Therefore, we can’t shine above the world.

God told the children of Israel to be separate from the world, and He has not changed:

Leviticus 20:23-24   And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. 24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the Lord your God, which have separated you from other people

So many people today claiming to be Christians and professing to believe His Word are forgetting that He is the LORD OUR GOD and His Word is “WORD” to us.

We think that we do not have to go to church.  We think that we can just sit at home and watch it on TV and that’s okay.  But the Word says in Heb 10:25 “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together”. We are out in the world all the time living and working among people who are not godly – people who do not have our best spiritual interest in mind.  We need to assemble with the Church and get charged up and ready to shine.

I read in a commentary the following:

(Romans 12:1–2) True worship consists of total self-surrender. The second response is vital participation in church life. Christians should recognize their dependence upon one another (vv. 3–5). They should use the gifts which God has given them for the good of others[1]

How can we use the gifts that God has provided in His Word if we will not renew our minds to it?

If we are not being transformed as Christians to the Word of God, then we are being conformed to the word of the world: because what we put into our spirit is what will come out. And, eventually, we will accept everything that the world says - even when it is against the Word of God. Then, we will be leading ourselves and others astray.

There is still a hunger for God’s Word in the world but it must be the truth or people are not interested.

A true Christian, living the Word of God, will draw people to God.  But they must see the real thing. How can people see the real thing if we are not renewed to the Word and therefore, do not have the power of God on the inside of us?

Our mission is to walk in love to people and also to live in the truth of the Word.  How can we do either, if our mind is not renewed to God’s Word and we are not living a life that is holy, separate from the world?

We must be hungry for God.  I encourage you to get into His Word and live the life He teaches. You will then see power in your life to be a witness and win souls for His Kingdom.
